About The Book

Suffering from a somatoform disorder (also known as a conversion disorder) in 1991, Don Shetterly was paralyzed and not able to walk or take care of himself. Traumatic moments of child abuse he lived through from an early age had finally caught up with him. At age 26, Don was set on a path that in order to survive and live, he had to heal those deep dark corners of his life. While this book is not a direct account of all that happened, the words here do form a picture of hope and possibility through trauma.

Often when Don's world was upside down and it seemed as if he could not make it, he turned to writing to help piece the moments of his life back together. These writings have come together into a book depicting the path of healing in his life. While it has not been an easy journey, Don wants others to know that no matter what you have been through in life, there is hope and possibility through trauma.

Book Excerpt

CHAPTER 2: The Hope Of Possibility (pg 16)

Have you ever looked at your day and your life, and said "that's not possible, there's no way I can ever do that?" If you haven't, I would be surprised as I think this is a pretty common thing for most humans to face at some point or another in their lives.

Yet, throughout the history of the world, we've seen ordinary people do extraordinary things and accomplish tasks that were nothing short of impossible at the time. There are so many examples of this.

So, if we view something as impossible, how do we go from impossible to possible?

We might conclude that one would need to believe that what we want to do is possible, and that having the right mindset is the key to beginning the journey. However, I know there have been many times in my life that I could not see the possibility of something, to get myself started. In those times, I relied on hope that there was a hope of possibility to get where I was going, and that's about all I could muster up the strength to do. Even in these moments, this was almost too difficult to do. (continue reading)
