In 1914 the first official celebration of Mother's Day took place.
On the 4th Sunday during Lent in Great Britain, a religious celebration called "Mothering Sunday" took place.
Julia Ward, author of the "Battle Hymn Of The Republic" organized a day for mothers dedicated to peace on June 2, 1872.
Sometime around 1900, Ana Jarvis began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. In 1914, Mother's Day was established by the congress and President Woodrow Wilson.
